The listing brick wall - a Jeff Banks shirt

Well, I crow-barred a Frederick Starke, a Ceil, and even a Jean Muir dress i never wear out for auction, plus I'm risking a London Mob dress on BIN which I secretly want to keep.

I thought I was ready to let this one go too, but I'm having real trouble. I'm also having trouble working out what to call it. Albanian hussar shirt? Carpathian peasant shirt? Ottoman short smock??

That's a pocket:

Well... anyway, I think I need a dark backdrop and better lighting for this, otherwise people might not get it. Enough of an excuse to delay?

btw it's this label

No it's not enough of an excuse! I'm not sure of the ethnic influence, but I really like it, and these 70s tops usually aren't my thing. Love the pocket!

haha - the pocket is what made me think... noooo, it's staying here!! And unless I find the perfect calf corset belt, I won't be wearing it either, as it's a bit overwhelming without.

Will continue to speculate about the influence until I see something else that makes it make sense.

No no, don't do that! 70s tops ARE my thing :D

How about 'beige seventies top'. And list it in mens shoes or somewhere else discreet for me ... :horny:

Just joking of course. Off to check your listings - you really are being good and clearing out! Of course you can keep it but something else must go if you are following the golden wardrobe rules of one in one out.

:hysterical:

You know, I've really tried to get as much as possible out there in the last two weeks, but what with a dodgy camera and an upturn in stuff-to-do in the last week, I've not managed as much as I should have.

I forgot most of the shoes, for a start. And the 60s lot. *sigh*

Will have to wait for another opportunity now. Meanwhile, the space-clearing mission is being seriously endangered, as the mood betrayed in the latest blog post makes clear:

blog latest

just, just, don't look at me. :BAGUSE:

LOL - I too got drawn into the topshop website looking for the Celia Birtwell collection launch date (anyone?) - although blatantly it will be a Stella McCartney h and m debacle where it sells out in 3 minutes and I'll only be able to get it on ebay.. - anyway what I'm saing is, you're not alone!

Yesterday: what should I be doing? Yes, you're right. I should be selling things and making the ebay room accessible again (oh yes, and some money!)..or at least handwashing something ready to sell.

What did I do? Spend 2 hours writing ad for MORE vintage, and a further hour deciding where to place it. Although (and I would never say this within earshot of husband) I do actually have quite enough to be going on with for some time I can't bear the thought of clothes being out there and me not saving them from an imaginary skip :BAGUSE:

Guess who was up there for the debacle today?? :hiya:

Very scary, and very amusing! It's something to tell the grandkids anyway!! :D

You braved it Liz? Hope you got those elbows nice and sharp! ;)
I don't think they have anything at my (small) local branch but I really want the Daisy blouse... off to town just incase (once small child is deposited at nursery).. What did you get?

There was this enormous SWELL when they brought the racks out at 4pm, I nearly got crushed and my bag was practically ripped off my shoulder with the force of all these maniacs!! It was hilarious in the changing rooms afterwards;

'Ughhhh, this looks horrid' 'Ughhhh, this doesn't fit properly at all'

Then later on as I walked past a shop assistant;

'F-ing Celia Birtwell, I hate her....HATE, HATE, HATE her'

I was tempted to point out that this whole debacle was engineered by Topshop, not Celia, to create a feverish demand and plenty of publicity!

Firstly I tried on the daisy blouse (seems the morning batch were a different lot, so I'm glad I was there in the afternoon!) which was great but a size 10 in Topshop doesn't mean squat to THIS size 10 girl, so I managed to catch someone leaving the changing rooms with a size 8 and we swapped (she didn't like the style at all).

At the same time I was trying on the botticelli print dress (renamed monkey puzzle now) - it's the most blatant rip-off of an Ossie - you can see the original in the V&A book. I managed to get an 8 in that which was tight in the hips, fitted perfectly in the bust and was extremely baggy around the middle. Huh?? That one is the most poorly made in my opinion.

So I went back out, nearly bought the Lapis blouse in black (I don't like the red or blue versions) but then spotted the floating daisy dress (black, tiered) which everyone was wetting themselves over. I grabbed it from the changing room guy split seconds before anyone else (all that charity shop experience is unbeatable in these circumstances, they might all have been to the Stella/H&M opening but I've had to grab far more important things and know how to stalk for the things I want :USING: ) and promptly had girls following me around, giving me filthy looks and asking me if I was going to buy it. :hysterical: Alas, it's a size 10 but the chances of a size 8 surfacing became zero - I saw them all walking off to the till. So I bought it anyway, even thought it's a little big. I'll either resell (if it really is that popular), keep in mint condition as an investment or get it tailored to fit me if I REALLY want to wear it. I couldn't guarantee that the size 8 would fit me properly, so perhaps it's better to buy big and take in!

The daisy blouse is BEAUTIFUL though, everyone was hankering after the dark version but I much prefer the black print on white :D

I also found it interesting that a lot of people had come over, asked what was going on, been told that everyone was waiting for the Celia stock to arrive, looked utterly blank (Celia, who?) but still joined the crowd and were amongst the most vicious in the scrum!! :USEROCKY:

I also felt a teensy bit smug that I knew I had a few originals at home ;) - which stopped me from getting too caught up in the whole thing. I was pretty desperate for that daisy blouse though, it's my favourite print and I have the same style of top (but original)....now I can wear the modern one without too much guilt!! :D

*green with envy*

I know what you mean about their sizing - I generally stab at the size 8s, but there's no predicting what they'll do around the waist and hips at Top Shop.
