They told me these shoes were 1940\'s...

But they look a lot like this 1958 ad.

They probably made this style for decades.
 
THey are 1950s - nice that they are Dr. Scholl's since they always specialized in orthopedic fits. This type of shoe was adopted by people with foot trouble as early as the 1910s and it remained in constand production with little change in style until the late 1960s. Its very hard to tell the difference between eras, however, the ones with navy or black decorative mesh were first made well into the 1950s.
