This really is OT - I\'m getting a new car!

Well, sort of vintage related! Background is, I've always driving silly old cars and am a bit fanatical about classic mini's (think Italian Job!). I had to sell mine when I was heavily pregnant as the electrics were a mess and it was just too dangerous.. have been looking to replace it for the last 2 years.

My mechanic friend rang this morning and said 'Would you be interested in this mini- I wasn't sure as the seats are a bit much for some, do you mind 60s tartan?'

LOL. He obviously doesn't know me very well - and I am to be the proud owner of a 1963 mk1 mini as soon as it's been rebuilt. So I'd better start earning some money on Sunday at the Nottingham fair! But my first thought? Not how I would pay for it, oh no...

It was what 1963 outfit I would wear for my first drive out of course! :D Luckily the rebuild will take a while so I have a good long while to gather it together...

Oh yay!

:clapping:

That sounds fun! Show us a picture!

My brother owns an MG Midget from 1976. Not the same as a mini cooper, of course...but its fun.

At the moment the car is a little rusty and well, a state- so here's a shiny one I found on 'tinternet all done up in surf blue. That's probably the colour I'll respray this one, as it's grey at the moment.

The car reminds me of an episode of "The Avengers." I love cute cars and I love vintage cars, too. I think I would want one in fire engine red. What do you think? Do you still HAVE your 1963 outfit, Hatty? :)

That's great, Harriet! Congrats. I love minis - at the moment my budget only affords a replica of Mr. Bean's. I had a girlfriend who owned a mini in the early 70s and I was impressed by how roomy they really are on the inside - she was 6'.

New car, new store - you have been buseeeeee! Looking forward to the grand opening.

Husband is pleased as he thinks I will hardly fit anything in when I go hunting for vintage. Oh how wrong he is!

You're right Deborah - I used to take rubbish to the local tip in my last mini and there was an area where they would sell on anything decent people had tipped like furniture. I've fitted many a bit of retro looking 50s furniture (chairs, stools etc) into the car while all the men stood around saying I'd never get it in.

I don't have to pay until it's finished except for a few bits along the way (I want new shiny chrome bits!) so I have a good while to sell some dresses and save up. As long as I restrain myself and try and maintain a higher selling to buying ratio than I have been lately I should manage it! - I went on an economy/ecology drive a few years ago and got rid of a big petrol guzzling estate (stationwagon type) car in exchange for a bicycle and child seat, but after 2 winters of getting very wet I am ready for the luxury of 4 wheels! :)

You are a lucky girl! I love vintage cars. I also love that color blue.

Oh Harriet,
You are such fun! Can't wait till car is fixed up for you. Want to see a picture of you in your yet to be decided 1963 outfit posing next to your fab car.
