Hi all! I have this black silk faille jacket that was sold to me as early 1900s but I'd like some confirmation. Huge bow tie front, pointed collar, interesting shape on the sleeves. Thank you!
It is lovely. My gut reaction is early to mid 1930s. I cannot really see what is going on with the sleeves. Do they have a flange or is the cuff open that wide? Is it lined?
I took a quick snap of the sleeves laying flat, the lining of the sleeves is no longer there. They are really that wide. The jacket does have a cotton moire lining.
The sleeve shape suggests it was worn over a full bishop sleeve, and that would be typical of the early 1900s (1900 - 1903). but they do show up in later periods too - late 20s - early 30s; early 1970s... It's hard to tell without handling the piece.
