I picked up a box of these the other day... I wasn't sure what they are and I'm still sorta unsure! I guess they are girdles (or a belt rather) for holding up stockings? 50's maybe?
Interesting thought on the sanitary napkins... these did come from the same place where I found the surgical corsets if that helps at all? The straps are in a weird place, I agree.
The placement of the straps are really strange. They remind me of something that would hold up something like modified chaps or something that only had to be held up on the outside of the leg.
actually... now that I look at it, I think the straps are supposed to go in the front and back and then you would have like a "v" with one hook for each stocking... maybe?
yes, the straps should go front and back - it's for holding a sanitary napkin. They're fairly long so the ends would join but not be too close to the crotch if that makes sense. They can't have been very comfortable.
I've never seen one before but back when I first started work you still could buy the napkins to go with them.
