Three black and white day dresses - 30s or 40s?

Hi,

I purchased these three darling dresses from an estate sale. They do have some condition issues such as some yellowing and some mended tears, but they are so sweet! I wondered if you could help me with dating them?

I'm getting a 30s vibe, especially the first two, but they look a bit short for 30s. Do they show signs of having been shortened?

They look 30's to me too.

My guess is they were shortened during the war era. People reused and made do with a lot of their older things then.

I agree: shortened '30s for the first two (you can see the second has a nice big hem) and '40s for the third. I love how consistent they are: this lady knew what she liked!
