Ties and Bowties Questions

When my son's school first started with uniforms, he was being very creative about pushing the envelope, and one of the ways he did this was with ties. He's over that now, so I have a whole bunch of bowties to list, and am not sure if they are all vintage, and if they should be listed as a group, or split up.

I also have these tux bowties, which I don't think are vintage, but I thought I'd double check:

Finally, there's this really cool chess theme tie. When I get to this category choice of vintage or novelty, which should I choose?

Your son was clever, with style!

I agree with Susan, list the chess tie in vintage--square bottom novelties are good sellers!

Re the bowties: Where/when did your son acquire them? (Maybe that will help in sorting out the dates?) Though I'm pretty wobbly on bowties, most look 50s to me... (I checked my tie books, and one clue to a 70s bowtie--aside from it being HUGE--is material, ie poly!)

One benefit to listing as a group is that a mix of dates is OK, but maybe you want to offer the more eyecatching ones (like the 3rd and 4th from the top on the right--wow!) separately...

Not sure about the tux ties, though the bottom left one looks like it might be 80s?

i'd say that 3rd and 4th down in the second row are going to be your best money makers, and DEFINETLY sell them separately.

the first and 5th in that row are also very good ones, particularly

we've recently sold about 3 CLIP-ON bow ties a couple being great Wembleys and they've been in the $30-40 range. We USED to get better money for tie-bow-ties, esp back in the 80s after David Bowie's China Girl Tour.

personally, i dont' care for the tux bowties, but they may do well for you at Halloween.

oh, and your chess tie is scrumptialicious. i'd list in vintage, given the choice, probably.

Susan Yes, the chess one is a Rooster. I am going to be listing that one tonight.

And as far as the bowties---sell the 1,3,4 and 5 from the second row separately and the remaining ones as a group? The first one has a little staining, so if I list it by itself, I'm going to have to work on it.

I'll take better pictures of the individual ones, and come back for more help tomorrow.

Carrie He was really very clever with style--there were suspenders, homemade bowties out of really goofy materials, belts vests, etc---anything that they had forgotten to mandate, he included for a while. Then it got to be just too much trouble.
