Hi, I used to sell a lot of ties on eBay, and with the newer ones (and I agree with Jonathan that most of these look on the newer side), the brand name has a lot to do with the pricing. What are some of the brand names that are in this batch? There are some that might be a little older (some of the ones in the first photo look older), but one would need to see the entire tie, labels, etc., to tell for sure. And there are some with some pretty nice patterns, which might fetch decent prices if they have a desirable name on them.

Although I only have a few ties, but haven't listed them yet, is there a good reference book out there or site for information on what's collectible? Or is combing through eBay solds the best option to educate myself?

Alice, I think someone posted a link a long time ago here to a good tie-dating resource. I'll see if I can find it later on..... Ties can be hard to date, which is why it's always good to be able to see the reverse side, labels, and fiber content, as well as, sometimes, the country of origin.

Here are some of the brands I know of. If you have the tie guide I would be interested. I am just not sure of which ones to list on ebay. Do you think a buy it now price would be good for these?
Thanks!

I sell mostly earlier ties, so I can't give any pricing or collectibility advice on these.

The tie link Anne mentions (I think I may have been the one to post it!) has been gutted of 90% of its info, but there is some great info (and helpful pictures) in this useful blog article at the Ties2Pillows site on trying to date ties, which also lists some great tie reference books to have on hand.

And if you scroll down this earlier VFG thread, you'll find some valuable tips on tie dating from our own Melody.

The thing about tie dating is that it's more an art than a science--you need to cross-reference the info you get from books, articles, and ads with examples you can actually see, measure, and handle.

You might want to do a search on eBay "solds". I have a shop there for my "less than 20 years old items. Usually I can get an idea of price by reviewing descriptions and labels. I would suggest also asking an eBay forum for information, but you have a lot to go through and I would be surprised if they could give you the time you need.
One other thought.... are there are any men's upscale 2nd hand stores in your area that you could visit?
