It's very late and I'm a tad loopy - this is the floral one:

- Cole of cali (very groovy!), 60s but maybe mid? although I have still to get to grips with prints and dating them..
- Agree on pink shift
- Frilly sleeves on polka dot make me think a bit late 70s but I can't quite work out the front (nice dress - polka dots are very in aren't they?)
- Guipure lace trim? or would it be more cutwork? (think guipure is embossed almost), agree on date

Now someone more knowledgable please step in! :)

Hi,

I have the same Cole of CA suit and beach cover up on now just a different coloring. I must admit your colors do look 1960s...maybe they kept making the same style for awhile.
I called mine 1950s due to the metal zipper and all cotton fabric...of course I could be wrong....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8434407748&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESE:IT&rd=1

I think your polka dot dress (the pinafore style) might be older, late 1950s. The pink sounds right at late 1960s and the one with the lace and stripes looks like 1950s (must have had a matching jacket at some point) The colors of the floral make me think 1960s.

As far as that last floral one....I think the determination if it is 60s or 70s is - does this fit the manni properly or is this large on her? I am leaning towards early 70s just for the fact while it may look more mini on her, I have a feeling because of her height - its actually below the knees on a woman of average height. if its a princess seam on the bodice (hard to see)...that would clinch it as being on the 70s side. But i could be WAY OFF>

Thanks so much ladies!!!

Mary Jane - yours does look 50s. Cool! Perhaps it was a signature pattern.

Here are a few more pics of pinafore and floral for you vintage sleuths. And Chris the first one may help in determining princess seam:

And here's the floral with crinoline. If the consesus is 50s for the pinafore, I will take with crinoline, too.

the polka dot dress is so farmers daughter!! lately I have had great success with polka dot items

The reason why i was thinking NOT early 60s is because the colors are very acidy (not contridicting, just so you can see what my train of thought was. ) Early 60s I would expect more natural colors.

Thanks for pointing that out Chris. You're right they are more acidy - and more acidy than the picture as the base colour is not a true blue, it it a bluish deep purple. I apologize for dribbling info - lack of sleep and rushing before I go to work. I guess what's throwing me is the label and the paper label underneath. The style too somewhat.

Hi,

I agree that the white surplice front lace top dress with navy bottom was a dress suit, and it had a jacket, it probably had a belt, as the type of dart that you show would not provide for any waistline fit (a belt would do that instead).

I feel that the polka dot dress is very 1970's--during the 1940's revival period: 1970-79. There are some sewing patterns online right now with the same 40's look to the dress.

Key clues for both dresses would be the type of zipper, of course (did I miss that somewhere in the talk above?) and the fiber type: any polyester or rayon?

That polka dot dress will be a hot item, I think, it's sooo cute!

Thanks so much for your input Jennifer! I rethought the polka dot dress and I too think it is 70s - certainly the zipper points in that direction. At one point because of the front treatment, I thought it was older and the zipper may have changed. Glad I waited to list!
