Timeline & other ?\'s on Fur Shrugs and Mink Stole

Hello again or should I say HELP! I'm trying to get listings ready for the weekend and I seem to have more questions than answers.
1. Chinese Mink stole - (had it checked by a reputable furrier a while back for type of fur), but I'd like to know what period this is. The style seems to go way back, but perhaps it continued thru the decades. ???? There are no labels.
2. Black Karakul with sealskin collar and polka dot lining - Late 50's/early 60's ????? Notice the slit in the sleeve at back; so perhaps it should be turned up which would made it a 3/4 sleeve in the end.
3. Broadtail or Swakara??? with blue floral satin lining. Late 50's/early 60's I saw another sale on eBay for a coat that looked exactly like this one, save for the collar, and it was called Swakara Broadtail with a history of Swakara (I kept the info if anyone is interested). However, there was no label saying Swakara; so does anyone know the difference between Broadtail or Swakara?
2 & 3 were made by Montreal furriers that no longer exist.

Any help will be greatlty appreaciated.

Thanks

Sorry that i can't help you out. I am sure someone will come along who can! (just giving it a little bump to the top of today's posts)

hi there, am trying help you with these, but l'm afraid the pics are very dark on my screen and have inported them to photoshop to lighten them to view..

the first is difficult to see, state of the lining may be a clue...but reminds me of late edwardian in its design . 'la belle epoque' this period was know as in europe...so thats 1901-1914...what does tha bck look like? could you take a picture.....could be 1920s..so am swithering...

the second is a 60s, as it a lovely couturier styling l believe. not 50s, no flared sleeves and not fitted enough for 40s...so my estimate is early to mid 60s and a good designer, so l would say 'couture styling'

and the third on, again going by the similar cut of the second..would be a similar time frame...

all the best

hope this helps...

Thank you so much!!! You've been soooo helpful. Here's a picture of the lining, but my gut says it was probably changed at one time. <img src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d30/alamov/ChineseMinklining.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
I use Photoshop as well and I've looked at my pics on other computers and they never look the same. I find reducing the size for transferring does darken them up; so perhaps I'll lighten everything before I reduce the size to see if that helps.

Thanks again!!!

Oops, here's the back:

Thanks again, Sara

hi again, thanks for the pics....yes l'lls tick with what l said for noe....the thickness of the strips also make me think that time frame....

good luck

I think your dating of 50's to 60's on these is correct. The first could be 40's and looks like what I call female mink, which I have been told has much softer guard hairs than the normal mink that we usually see.

#2 is black Persian Lamb and the collar looks like silver mink to me. Do you have a photo of the collar closer in? I would definitely cuff those sleeves.

#3 is silver or grey Persian Lamb, some people call it Karakul or broadtail as well.

Nice coats! Good luck with them!

That first one is pretty classic but as Sara said, they were around early and it may be an early one. The black jacket with grey collar looks early 60s to me and the grey jacket looks early 50s to me, although it might just date into the late 1940s.

Thanks everyone!!!! I'm fairly confident the black Persian Lamb is a seal skin collar - the look and feel - and the designer's tag has a seal on it, but I'm no expert; so here's a close up:

Even though, I too thought the cuffs should be turned up, the edging is worn and if it had been turned up the wear would be further up the sleeve.
Jonathan - here's a front shot of the #3 if this helps with defining the date more. At this point I'm leaning more towards Sara's dating

THANKS AGAIN!!!

I don't know much about furs at all, so I really can't be much help. However, if the trim on #2 is indeed seal, you can't sell it on ebay as it's on their prohibited items list.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea and was getting read to list.

Deborah

Thanks, I'll dig further. Now, of course, I am certainly hoping it's not seal, but I really want to be positive before I put it up for sale.
