To be or not to be a 70\'s Hawaiian Maxi??

1. Have I actually found a real maxi???

2. What is this gathering, train thingy on the back??

3. And the bust, how would you describe the bust style wrapping??

4. I'm thinking 70's. Your thoughts??

Thanks in advance! Vicki

Agree with 70s and with maxi. The folded thing in the back is a watteau panel - I've seen them on a lot of 70s Hawaiians.

The bust treatment? Sometimes it's easy for me to overthink and get bogged down. Then I end up with something simple like "twisted wrapfront bodice", which is pretty close to the way you already described it.

Aloha,

Even though I live in Hawaii and lived here during the '70's, I'm really not an expert on Aloha Attire. However, I just finished reading a book on Aloha Attire and your dress, while maxi in length is not really a "Hawaiian maxi dress." It's a Holomu'u - which might have been worn by some to work on Aloha Friday's and would have been worn to evening events back in the '70's.

A holomu'u is a more fitted garment than a mu'umu'u but has some characteristics of the more formal Holoku which always has a train.
