To Bree or not to Bree ???

I'm preparing this listing and even though my buddy swears this is an authentic 70s Bree, my research on ebay makes me uneasy. If anyone can confirm either way, I would really appreciate it!

Everything I have seen from the 70s seems to have a Bree tag with handmade on it and the later ones have a red cloth tag. This one has no tag, but is very well stitched and of a quality leather with just BREE on the front flap.

Thanks!!!

I looked on their website and it's certainly the exact logo.. I really don't know much about them though I'm afraid.

Lovely looking bag! I would list as it is and just state that there are no internal labels. Don't suppose it could be a later design, if it doesn't have what you would expect from a 70s one?

Thanks ladies!!! Good question, Harriet. Perhaps there was a period when they had no labels at all. Does this look like it could be from a later period? The saddle, shoulder type speaks 70s to me.

Help! A potential customer just asked me if the clasp on the bag was magnetic or pressure. A great question and one I missed completely. It is magnetic and I'm guessing that makes it much later than 70s. Does anyone know when magnetic clasps came in? Or good guesstimate; so I can go and change my info.

MANY THANKS!!!

You know, I don't know. I have accesories book here that is showing a 60s snap closure on front flap but I think they mean a real snap.

Just to be safe, I am thinking early 80s. I have a purse book at my shop. I will go get it today and see if it has anything in it.

You're a dear!!! I put a note on the sale with today's date and I will follow up as soon I know. I will also conduct a web search and see what I can come up with. THANK YOU SO MUCH, Linda!

Web search was rather fruitless: patent office just has date of last renewal. But I went to my other bags and I have a 70s disco bay with a magnetic closure - and I'm sure that one is 70s, maybe mid to late, but 70s.

So I'll wait til I hear from you Linda, but I'm thinking I will change my category from mod disco hippie to the next one up and hope the watchers notice BEFORE they bid.

there were magnetic closures in 60's according to my sresearcha nd bags....the style is a 70's bag and was called a saddle bag, although square in shape rather than the usual curved, its in keeping...so l would say 70's....

I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief... Thanks, Sara. I'm so afraid of making a big faux pas that I fear I have jumped the gun (almost did a Saraism and wrote fun - jumped the fun - I kinda like that...). Will not be the first, nor the last I fear - it's innate.
