Top Hat, need opinions

Dear experts.

Please, tell me the value of this item and if you can identify the manufacturer. The seller is saying that this item is from the WW2 Germany period. I was looking for information about the manufacturer, but I found nothing.
I have a catalog of the WW2 Germany period, about all manufacturers of hats (96 sheets "Dehazet, Lieferanten-Verzeichnis für die gesamte Hutbranche" . This catalog does not contain this manufacturer.
If possible, write your opinion.
Please, If possible, write your opinion.

Or is it a modern fantasy fake?

Best regards.
Victor

Hello Victor,
As per our forum policies here:

https://forums.vintagefashionguild....ease-read-before-you-ask-your-question.52007/

you will see we cannot provide a value for your very nice hat. You will also see the VFG cannot authenticate your hat; a professional appraiser should see the item in person and/or you could search closed auction results on eBay for similar items.

Re the manufacturer of your hat, I am guessing the Ludwig Bucher on your label refers to the seller of the hat, not the manufacturer. My rusty high school German tells me Bucher sold men's things (Herrenartikel) and fur products (Pelzwaren)...and I think he sold them in Torgau in Germany...I think.

The hat is a collapsible silk 'opera' hat. They were collapsible so they didn't take up room in the cab or coat check, and sometimes they were stowed under the seats in the opera house. We have two in our collection and both were made in Germany, so these hats seem to be something Germany was known for. I can't read the stamp inside the crown of the hat, but that would be the maker, the box is marked with the retailer and there is no reason to assume it isn't original to the hat. I suspect the WWII attribution comes from the address of the shop on 'Hermann Goring Strasse' as many streets and plazas were renamed after Nazi leaders during the Third Reich, however, I suspect this is prewar. Goring was at his height of popularity in the late 1930s, and silk top hats were a prewar luxury.

Thank you for your opinion.

I will ask tomorrow to take a photo inside the hat. I think tomorrow evening I will give additional photos. Yes, you are right, the name of the street where the store was located. I was looking for any information. I didn't find. My last attempt, to find the manufacturer. As I see it, the Cylinder is well made. Quality should be given by a serious manufacturer. I will provide additional photos tomorrow. I looked at the prices of vintage top hats. They are not so expensive. But this cylinder is very expensive, because of the label with Goering's street name. I have a second one. Very beautiful. In box and paper case. Unfortunately small size.

About price, it's not so important. Because the seller said his price, an it's my wishes to buy it or not )))

I don't need an exact price. I wanted an opinion ranging from and to.
I studied prices. I see that the prices for old Top hats are not expensive.

With regards
Victor

As a general rule of thumb I’d check sold prices on eBay and also online auctioneers. However, as per forum rules we can not state prices at all including price ranges. Sold items should give you an idea though at least.

I give normal photo of the stamp of this Top hat.

What are You thinking about this stamp?

Victor

Got me... Druckfrei apparently means 'pressure-free' or 'de-pressurized', and the Reverenz is probably the brand of the hat - I can't read the thrid word - gekty? Sorry, not sure what that all means. It's a manufactured hat, so it could have been made under the brand name and sold through different retailers around the country - lots of products are made that way - no mention of the company that made it, just the brand name or the store.

Thanks Jonathan. :)
I happy. I got all information what I need about this Top hat.

My Best Regards
Viktor

P.S. this forum is the Best :)

That type of "old style" script (Frakturschrift) was also very popular and used everywhere in Nazi Germany (including magazines, papers and books), which goes with the address of the shop.
I would also assume that "Reverenz" is the brand, it translates to "reverence" which I guess was chosed to allude to something courtly or royal. The script below it is "ges. gesch." and is short for "gesetzlich geschützt", which means the brand was coyprighted.

Hello, Midge! :)
Thanks for the comment. Very happy, good news. Yes Ges. Geshch. I know. Since I collect items from the 3rd Reich. And the name of the company, I thought that the company is well-known. But no information about this brand. In my catalog, I did not find this brand. But perhaps the catalog is too old.

Thank You.
With Regards
Viktor
