Hi Guys,

for a new project i'm on, I need a second-hand tailored man's jacket....:scratchchin:

any high-end labels I should be looking for? Men's tailoring is far from being my forte....:puzzled:

I would particularly like brands that would be unfamiliar to the usual shopper....I have to rip this jacket apart so I am unwilling to spend much...though I dont want anything of low quality...

Thanks in advnce for any help!!!!!!:)

On my hunt so-far, I have bought no mens jacket....

....but.....I got an Ann Demeulemeester suit jacket and trousers!!!! And for only €14!!!! the jacket fits me perfectly...

the label and silhouette say 90's......so happy!!!:spin::spin::spin:

Its hard to say what you might run into, since you're in the UK. Are you asking to make sure you don't destroy something of potential worth?

I basically want lesser-known or less mainstream brands which practise top tailoring methods.....

I need to rip it apart as part of a project to investigate top tailoring methods so I need something of high quality... I might put it together after to fit me...

I just don't know many top brands for men...the only one I am familiar with is Corneliani ( I had the pleasure of visiting their workrooms), and I know the usuals(Versace, Dolce, Gucci) of course...

...but I often find that the well-kniown brands are quite expensive even secondhand so in case I can't reconstruct it I want something inexpensive...and therefore of less commercial names

On that note- does anyone know of good books on tailoring and its history? Any top design companies in the past reknowned for the construction methods??

I've had requests like this in the past from fashion students: I recommend that you hit the charity shops and look for good, tailored suit jackets from the 30s to 50s - the older ones are almost always tailored, and if you look out for tailor's labels you should find something cheaply. Especially good are European labels - my favourites are Italian. The Italians really take that stuff seriously.

There isn't much call for suit jackets and some fabulous items go wanting - of course, I'm talking about Australia where we have a large Italian population. I don't generally buy them because they're not big sellers. If you have trouble finding one and have a bit of time, drop me a line and I can send you one from here.

Nicole,

thanks for the advice!!

i have started hunting in the charity shops- I used to avoid them because the ones in dublin seem to smell quite bad!!:BAGUSE:

but they seem to have some unrealised potential....a new adventure unfolds!!
