Totally OT *UPDATE W PHOTOS*

I am so excited! About a month ago I emailed the Red Sox to request tickets to take my Mom and Dad to a game. They have a new program called Papi Cares through which tickets are give to families who otherwise could not afford to go.

Well, my Mom is the biggest Red Sox fan in the world and has been since she came to the US from Venezuela to go to college. She turned 88 this past Wednesday and is in the early stages of dementia and I wanted so badly to take her to a game while she can still enjoy it.

So, this morning I got an email from the Red Sox and we sill be going to the game Sunday night. Woo hoo! Of course my Dad gets to go too so we'll make this a Mother's Day/Father's Day outing. Can't wait!:clapping:

Sounds like a fun evening - great Red Sox promotion, and glad it worked out for you!

we saw the Sox play in Tampa summer before last, what a blast!! there were more Boston fans than Devil Ray fans BY FAR, even all the way down in Tampa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you lucky people!

I don't follow them avidly, but I started follwing the Red Sox in 1967. I have never seen a major league game, only AAA

:excited:

Thanks you guys. I haven't been to a game myself since high school. My BF can't believe how excited I am about going but as I told him, HE'S never invited me so how would he know?

The weather is not supposed to be the best tomorrow but it should still be a fun outing. We're heading to Fenway at 4 for an 8pm game just because parking is such a problem there. I've made arrangements to get into the park early so we'll be able to watch batting practice and all that. It's going to be a total surprise for Mom and Dad as all I told them was that I have reservations someplace special and that we'll be out a while. I just know that Mom will be asking if we'll be back in time for her to watch the game.

I've charged the battery on my camera to take lots of pictures and will post a few for you guys next week. I can't believe that I get to take them to a game, I never thought that would really happen.

Where are the seats, Candy?

I'm wondering if they're in a covered section or not; if not, you'll want to bring slickers, umbrellas, the works--anything to keep yourself comfy if the weather's bad.

My first Red Sox game (in March 2000) was so exciting (Pedro Martinez, Nomah, Trot Nixon, Johnny Damon--the whole gang!), but it was miserably cold and rainy, and rather than flat out cancelling the game, they just kept delaying innings till the field dried out again.

Needless to say, those of us in the bleachers, huddled under a blanket when it got too crowded at the concessions, never dried out...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a weather miracle for you!

Thanks Carrie. As I understand we will be in the right field box seats. Possibly right next to the dug out. I'm trying to find the slickers that I have but am not having much luck. They have to be here somewhere. The weather doesn't sound great for tomorrow night but I have my fingers crossed that we can avoid rain. If your fingers are crossed too maybe that'll be the extra luck we need!

We had a wonderful time at the game last night and the Sox WON!

All I told them when we picked them up is that we were going to a special dinner and show. Not knowing really bugged Dad and Mom was convinced that we were going to one of her favorite waterfront restaurants. On the way in Mom asked several times if the Red Sox were playing, she's really starting to forget a lot.

When we got there we pulled up by the gate we were supposed to be met at so that I could get Mom out while Danny parked the car. I was standing with Mom and talking with one of the security guys there when Mom looked at me and asked if we were going to a game. When I told her we were she got all choked up and I get all choked up now thinking about her reaction. It was so great!

Here's Mom and Dad outside while we waited for her wheel chair to go out to the right field seats.

And here's one at our seats.

Here's where we were actually sitting as viewed from the dug out. That's Mom and Dad under the arrow.

It was really great and I'm so glad that Big Papi gave us the opportunity to do this because I really couldn't have afforded to do it for them myself.

Awesome, Candy! I'm all teary eyed, myself.... What great seats--up high enough for a good view of the field, but not up in the stratosphere needing oxygen.

You're a terrific daughter, and I'm sure your mom was thrilled to pieces!
