Probably nobody is near this place, but just in case, this looked interesting... (Kitchener is about an hour northwest of Toronto)

Textile Tour at Doon Heritage Crossroads
White Glove Tour of Museum's Textile Collection

On Saturday, February 12, Doon Heritage Crossroads in Kitchener will
supply
the white gloves for a hands-on tour of the remarkable Textile
Collections
housed in the Waterloo Regional Curatorial Centre at the museum.
Pre-registration is required for the tour which takes place from 9:30 am
to
12:30 pm. The cost of the tour is $15.00 per person.

The museum's Curator and Conservator will show the collections' best and
most interesting examples of needlework, quilts, coverlets, and
clothing,
dating from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, including: a small
yellow silk swatch of fabric reputed to have come from the bed chamber
of
Marie Antoinette; a needlework sampler from the 1770s; a quilt made by
an
English soldier from other soldiers' uniforms during the Crimean War in
the
1850s; Mennonite show towels; Victorian wedding dresses; and many more
artifacts made of linen, silk, wool and cotton.

There will be lots of information sharing and hand-outs to take home on
the
care and handling of textiles. This will be a great opportunity to ask
how
best to store and care for heirloom quilts or wedding dresses; and who
to
talk to when you want to have textiles cleaned and conserved.

Call the museum at (519)748-1914 to register.

Doon Heritage Crossroads is located at 10 Huron Road at Homer Watson
Boulevard in Kitchener, 3 km north of Interchange 275 on Highway 401.

That sounds great! What an opportunity.

Now why does it have to be so very far from my house?
