Trends for the spring and summer.. . ???

For a brief period I fancied I could become one of those trendy sellers making big $$ selling mini-nautical-babydoll -pea coats or whatever ... and so I subscribed to “Teen Vogue” and “Lucky” to get a sense of what was "in" with the younger set.

I received both April issues yesterday and it would appear over-sized purses, very short skirts and empire waists still have a grip, as far as trends go. (I’ve read that clutches are making a comeback ... but they have to be big!)

I also noticed an emphasis on large waist bands and belts and quite a bit of sparkle.

Across the fashion board, I sense a renewed interest in bold patterns and “artsy” prints. The ethnic look still seems to be prevalent, as are flouncy skirts and hopefully 50’s styles for the prom - only a LOT shorter than the 50’s I remember.

Of course, I am in northern Vermont, not exactly the center of the fashion universe.

What do you all see as trends???

I agree with everything that you've said, especially about the arty prints, wide 80s belts and big clutches. And short skirts! Young Australian women like showing off their bodies so: short skirts, plunging necklines and sleeveless.

A retro shop down the road caters to this market and I find it baffling: she buys frumpy 80s dresses with elastic waists, chops the sleeves off, shortens the hem and accessorises the hell out of it. Her shop is always buzzing with sales.

I'm very happy that it's working for her but it's not a market I understand. Trendy has never been my bag, baby, so at Circa we concentrate on quality and style. Do what you know best, I say.

Big yes to the oversize clutches, at least in here in London.

I'm also feeling for fifties full skirted print sun and day dresses - been quite a few shoots in Uk mags (vogue did a great fifties sea side retro shoot), and also reworking of this look on the Catwalk.

Also floral prints - as debutante clothing mentioned, the print scale is key and use of colour.

In terms of ethnic I've had customers show more interest in the luxe end of Seventies styling, i.e Thea Porter style bohemian print and embellishment. However I'm not at the low cost/super trendy end of the market, so more standard ethnic isn't really my customer.

Jackets with exxagerated shoulders as seen in the 80s are in....
The seventies are in...I think the boho and safari looks are most popular...
Tie dye and painted fabrics are big too....
And I agree with the trend in large clutches too...

I want to go shopping now:bouncy:

maxis are back in

Yeah. I was just thinking I sure wish maxis would come back about 2 days ago. I personally wish the baby doll look would go away. Makes everyone look pregnant.
