Tube purse

So I bought this cute tubular purse last weekend. I just couldn't resist. Even my husband was telling me that I needed it and who's going to say no to that! The inside lining needs to be glued on the ends but otherwise its in really good shape.

My question is, the vinyl has some very slight scratches and smudges. Is there something good to clean vinyl with? And is there something you should never use on vinyl?

Try windex for finger printy smudges. For scratches, depends on how deep. Sometimes you can use shoe polish (but sparingly and really buff it out good) if scratched and a smooth layer is revealed, but for the most part it is what it is. If you sell it, just disclose. People know the nature of the beast and if its cute, which it is, they'll want to carry it because it will inevitably get scuffed anyhow. But if you are not selling it - just enjoy it.

I have never tried but I wonder if you could use Novus on it. Novus is a plastic cleaner that works to polish Bakelite - and will remove light scratches. It comes in two formulas - one is more of a polish and one is a cleaner/scratch remover.

Interesting! I have never heard of it before. I am wondering what it will do, as bakelite is the same color all the way through and a vinyl bag isn't most of the time. Do you think it will work if she is seeing white through the scratches? I am really curious to know.

Well I'm not seeing white through the scratches. They are just very light, surface ones. I might give Novus it a try. Where would you find it?
In any case, the purse is just for me so I don't have to worry about impressing anyone else.
Thanks guys!

I bought it online from www.bsueboutique.com but do a search and you will probably find it. May even be available in hardware stores. I have no idea if it will work but I'd try a tiny amount in an inconspicuous place first. I cleaned and polished a pair of really grubby Bakelite bangles with it!

Adorable bag, Connie! If you are using it just for you, I would clean & polish it with Cadillac leather conditioner. You can use it on vinyl as well, and it gives it a nice smooth finish and a bright shine. Also will soften up older vinyl that feels stiff and/or a bit dry. You need to buff it out well on vinyl so it won't smudge. Personally, I would not risk anything that is supposed to take out minor scratches or "fix" flaws. The Cadillac should do it up very nicely.
