Tweed shorts

When I tried these on they were very high waisted and ended at the knees ( a bit like victorian boys trousers) very nice tweed but they look imported so i'm wary that they're not very old at all. Not sure if the trim is faux or real leather.

I was thinking more mid-late 70s - 77ish - Ralph Lauren did them then - with lace-up shoes, bulky knit sweaters, poorboy caps and BIG sunglasses.

Hi,

Yes, late 70's.....I did not wear them but saw them on the streets then. I think I recall seeing Lauren Hutton on a Vogue cover in the 70s in these type of knickers or whatever you want to call them. And does anybody remember the old Virginia Slims ads?

I don't recall anyone wearing these in the 80's....but then again, my memory is foggy from those days....and I was not paying attention to current styles in my punk days...

I remember wearing knickers in the early '80s, I was in my pre-teens then. I recall loving a a tan cotton pair that buttoned under my knees.

I think Jonathan is spot on with the Ralph Lauren late 70s look on these. I think they were worn with heavy soccer-length socks with those lace-up shoes....

The gaucho pant and its variations (harem pant, long culotte, wide-leg jumpsuits) were huge in the mid to late 80s--I had some of mine 'til I sold them off a couple years ago! Still have one gaucho-style dress....

I agree with the late '70s people, I'd put them about 1978. I had a pair in that colour and loved them! Browns were so big in the '70s, and the late '70s were a return to classics after all the fun of glam rock and punk.

This style immediately said "plus fours" but back in the late '70s we called them knickerbockers. Plus fours are for golf and I think yours are a fashion item.

Wow these seem to have evoked a lot of memories for you guys here! Wasn't expecting this kind of response so thanks a lot people :D

Quite tempted to keep them now, not sure how I'd pull it off though!...

These appear to perhaps be a fashion take on golf knickers (plus fours). Sporty, in any case. What does the printed ribbon tag loop say?

It says Domino Look Co. ltd

I def. wore knickers in the early 1980s. I remember vividly being in 8th grade and I got a seersucker outfit that was knickers and a sailors top. It was a bit of a risk since none of the other girls my age had anything similar and you know how that could go - either really well or really poorly. Mine went well (in other words I didn't have to leave school in tears) and I wore the heck out of that outfit. I wore with navy hose and navy heels - well semi-heels - as high as my mom would allow.

I still think these look more 1970s though...if you keep them I would rock these with a coat and boots. They are cute.
