Off The Vintage Subject, but just had to share...
If you liked the movie The Royal Tenenbaums(I heart) then I hope you have or will see "The Darjeeling Unlimited". I just watched it (2007 release) two nights ago & didn't send it back so I could re-watch it! Fabulous!!:adore:

Merciful goodness, I thought they were both horrid.
I have to care about a character to like character driven movies. I didn't care much for any of them in either movie; they all seemed like spoiled jerks.

I hated Rushmore in the same way, too...

LOL - I am afraid I totally hated all those movies too - I also didn't care about any of the characters. I also hated the Unbearable Lightness of Being and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... among others.

My favourite movies are almost anything by Hitchcock or Jeunet (Amalie, A Rather Long Engagment)...

Oh I loved Spotless! I also love love anything by Hitchcock or Jeunet (Amalie, A Rather Long Engagment)...!
Yikes! Unless someone chimes in with some love my ego may delete this post!! HeeHee!

Oh Thank GOD!
I thought it was just me.
I wanted to pretty much just slap everyone in The Royal Tenenbaums and I have an issues with The Gwyneth and her droopy boobs.

sorry....

My son just said it is like the boring version of Arrested Development.

oh dear, i'm sorry to say but i also hated the royal tenenbaums, for the same reason as jenn and jonathan, and thought i was the only one! don't feel bad though, *so* many people raved about it, i was beginning to think there was something i just didn't get.

felt the same about unbearable lightness of being, but spotless didn't hit me the same way. not a favorite, but it was ok. *loved* amalie.

this is the first i've heard of the darjeeling unlimited, but then i live in a cave.

Don't worry - if you go to places like IMDB you can find tons of people who think Darjeeling Express is a brilliant film, and Royal Tennenbaums, etc.

Hey, its a good thing we all like something different, otherwise there would be no variety in life!

To make you feel better, I also love Thoroughly Modern Millie, ALL the Austin Powers movies, I laugh like a Hyena at the Scary Movie series, and I have been known to eat canned pasta - happily.

I wasnt going to click on this thread because I also HATED the royal tenenbaums and figured if I didn't have anything nice to say---I should skip it :D

But now I see I am not alone! So I will admit.....I hated it so much. LOL.

KK, sorry!

Jonathan--I refuse to believe you eat canned pasta. I don't believe it.

Never did see the Royal Tenenbaums, but I love Franny and Zooey so I'd wanted to see this. However, it came out when my girl was a toddler, so it falls into the period of time which for me contains something of a popular culture void.
You won't catch me eating spaghetti-o's, but offer me the ravioli....

Ya know, it takes certain person to *love* those movies. I have a married couple that I'm friends with and they love those kinds of movies. They were also rabid fans of Arrested Development the TV show that was canceled.

I'm not too much of a fan of that 'quirky' style of comedy but the people who are LOVE it! Those are the kinds of movies that become cult favorites. I am one of the few people who like some but not others. I like The Royal Tannenbaums but didn't like the Darjeeling thing. I liked Rushmore but wasn't a fan of Lost in Translation. Napolean Dynamite was eh, ok.

I loved Donnie Darko though!

I am a fan of quirky movies like Royal Tenenbaums, Raising Arizona is another all-time favorite. I think they could be seen as the modern/darker equivalent of the screwball comedy of the 30s, which were also not widely popular in their day.

That might be why I was so unhappy with TRT. We love movies like Raising Arizona or Fargo (or pretty much anything from the Coen Brothers) and no matter how many times we see an episode of Arrested Development we just laugh and laugh.

Ugh, it could just my intense irrational dislike of Paltrow.

Ahhhh, Coen Brothers! So funny you say that, last night I was wanting to ask if anyone dislikes the Coen films, I adore them all!!
And as for canned pasta, Haven't been a week without t in over 35 years!
Everything Chef Boyardee offers,I will consume!!

LOVED Fargo!

HATE Chef-Boy-R-Dee! But after years of having too many Italian friends to count from Staten Island, I was fed entirely too well by grandmothers and mothers that I have a hard time eating sauce out of a jar now.

But I totally ate Chef Boy as a kid - even the ones with 'meat'balls. :barf:

lol

<-- dislikes coen brothers' films.

kk, it looks like we can have dinner together, but would have one heck of a time picking out a movie to watch, lol!

i like quirky movies, but a different flavor of quirky. like 'grand canyon,' 'until the end of the world,' 'the ninth configuration.'

i also used to like franco american spaghetti, but can't remember the last time i bought any. do they still even make it? i'd probably still like it. it's to spaghetti what canned asparagus is to fresh. i like canned asparagus, but it's only vaguely like the real thing.
