Hello All,

I am hoping you can help me identify and date the following garments I was fortunate to buy today....

Number 1 - fastens with snaps at the left side and at the left shoulder. Unlined.

Number 2 - fastens in the back with hooks & eyes. Has a loop in the front at the bottom.

Thank you!

The first one looks like it should be paired with a slim skirt. The second one with the loop in front - I assume it is attached to a button or something on the inside of a skirt to keep it tucked in. What do you guys think?

I believe the cream dress is a sort of 1910's tunic. In my experience with similar garments it would have been worn over an underdress with a muslin or silk bodice to which 3/4 or long sleeves were attached. A long straight skirt would have been attached to the underdress bodice.

I agree with Marian on the linen tunic. The black blouse I think is from slightly earlier. 1900 - 1910.

Thank you. Do you know a term for that type of tunic? Just wondering the best way to list it. Do you think the black blouse was worn under a corset? Was the loop in some way related to that?

I just call those overdresses or over tunics. The blouse was over a corset. The loop might have attached to a button or hook on the outside of the corset to keep it down.
