Ugly christmas sweaters-A new trend?

Hi everyone,
I was watching a sunday morning news show today and they had a segments on ugly christmas sweaters. Apparently people have parties where everyone is supposed to wear their ugly sweaters.
Beacuse of this trend there are several websites that just specialize in tacky holiday sweaters which sell for about $25.00 each!!
Now I have a new thing to scour the thrift shop for.

Here is a website that explains all about it and offers some for sale.

Anybody collect these or have any pictures to share?

It's still fairly full blown here - i've had several people come in/call asking for ugly Christmas sweaters.
Despite the fact that I could have collected many of them, I don't sell them. I am kind of seeing it on par with Halloween costumes.

But the places that DO sell them seem to be in the range of $15-$30.

Holy cow those sweaters on ebay are fetching some high prices. Isn't it funny that most of them are being modeled by men. I can't get my hub to wear a plain sweater let alone one with a giant reindeer on the front with a blinking nose.

I think I'm going to have to pay more attention to these when I spy them at thrifts.

yep, i cracked up when i was cruising the "what's up " section of the paper for holiday concerts, etc and noticed an add for a Charlotte (NC) bar that was having it's first annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. i think its hilarious!!

I think it has been going on for a while now & like Brenda mentioned it has been big on ebay for several years. We used to get calls for them when we had our shop & we have been closed for 9 years now.

I too saw the story (Bill Geist is one of my favorite reporters) & my main reaction was that the craze may be peaking since it finally hit national TV. I thought it was funny when they showed them shopping at the thrift.

It's a great excuse for a party!

One of our local food writers just had their annual Polyester 'n Cheese party. Looked like a blast and the outfits were great!! (much funner that ugly Xmas sweaters!)

I admit, I've never heard of this trend before, but there's a print ad and a TV commercial around that both feature holiday-themed sweaters as unwanted gifts...
The print ad shows a beer-bellied guy in a too-small sweater, and the TV commercial is for a coffee-pad-and-machine system, with three guys who all got the same sweater from their respective wives/mothers etc. (I don't know, but that commercial might be on in other countries too...).

Now, is that just a coincidence ;) ?

Just like the sweater I bought this autumn...

I'd been looking for something like this to wear with leggings for so long... :spin:
