I don't see any UKers on this side, but maybe one of you know...

Is the abbreviation "Worcs" short for Worciester? Worchester? Or what town/county/huh is that?

TIA
Leisa

can you look it up on http://www.usps.com ? I know they have a zip look up...maybe they have abbreviations. I would guess Worchester, but why not ask the customer? I am sure they wouldn't mind telling you.

For rates, all of England is the same rate so you don't need to know for figuring it out.

Hi Leisa
It's short for Worcestershire, which is a county. Worcester is the main city, and it is one of those where it is spelt nothing like the way it is pronounced ('wooster').
Hope that helps!
:)

That's pronounced "wooster???"

I think we (my family) have always pronounced it something like, "WORSchester." lol

Ah, it's good to finally know! :)

i think that's probably how it should have been pronounced at one point! i'm sure it's one of those words that's pronunciation has degenerated over time, but the spelling hasn't been revised accordingly (if that makes sense!)

as a child i hated spelling it - same with leicestershire etc. (pron. 'lestershire' of course), all very confusing!

for the record, i say worcester so it rhymes with 'duster'- i have a bit of a regional accent of my own but you get the idea! ;)

all the 'chesters/cesters' come from 'castrum', denoting Roman camps.

I think...

I've heard tell many times of the famous <b>Ly-chest-er</b> Square, London (<i>actually Lester</i>)
