UK\'ers - anyone know cornwall?

a long shot i know... i have to head down south to cornwall shortly for family stuff, and being me while i am there (for a week or so) i obviously want to take the opportunity to browse for more vintage!
i've never managed to find a single vintage shop in the past, and didn't know if any uk members could point me in the right direction.
i'll be staying in a little village near st agnes, so about halfway between st ives and newquay on the atlantic side - but am happy to go on day trips!
i realise this may be a lost cause but you never know - have just found one place advertised in penzance, but i'm scared that with no internet access (so not even ebay!) i will go mad without my usual *fix*
(i know, i'm a lost cause! :P)
if not i'm sure i'll survive - and i know it's a long shot but just thought someone out there might now!!

The Mendes are in Cornwall I believe, but I don't know if they have a shop. I know they do antique shows and sell online here is there web address:
www.mendes.co.uk
They also specialize in lace and antique clothing, not vintage...

I'm a Uk'er but unfortunately I don't know Cornwall Harriet, but I can tell you I know what you mean, I need my vintage 'fix' too, I'm addicted!

I used to have contact with a couple of dealers in Cornwall, but I don't think they had shops. Let me see what I can find out for you.

I don't know Cornwall very well, but if you fancy a trip over the border to Devon there's a real Aladdin's cave of a vintage shop in Totnes. I had a great day out there last summer and even managed to get a Jean Varon for a fiver in a charity shop!

thank you margaret and liz, that's excellent...am feeling myself being drawn towards totnes already, must check multimap!

yes chris, that's jumble! so called as he's a cross breed. and because i read a lot of 'william' books (by richmal crompton) when i was young, and william had a dog called jumble... nothing to do with jumble sales, which is what everyone that meets him assumes!!

he's 5 but still looks like a puppy as his head is too big for his body
:)

I can help!!

Hi .. well, I live in Cornwall, so you're in luck ...!

Yes, Kitts Couture in Penzance is great. (They have a website.)

Truro (the capital of Cornwall, about 6 miles from St Agnes) has a funky vintage shop called Enjoy. The same people who run this shop also sell vintage in a huge converted church every Saturday in Falmouth, where I live, on the south coast.

That's all I can think of for now, if I think of any more, I'll let you know ... I'm sure you'll have a great time - it's lovely here!

hi lorraine!:hiya:

thats so nice of you - and yes, although i've been and come back i'm a pretty frequent visitor as my best friend and my godson live on a farm near st agnes/perranporth so i will be back in a month or so for godmotherly duties!
i found the website for kitts couture, and went over to penzance and it was closed for lunch and i couldn't wait around for it to re-open (off season so a 2 hour lunch i think!)...and i could see a sale rail through the window.. so i'll be sure to go back over in july.
went into truro and had a search around but didn't find 'enjoy' i don't think? - there was a little shop in a small arcade as you walk through over a bridge but it didn't seem to have much actual vintage. i don't think i explored enough though and am sure i missed about half the shops in truro as i got waylaid by the farmers market.

and falmouth! i really wanted to go over for a day in falmouth but as i was on godson duty i didn't have time. it sounds like i should have made more effort - again, i shall make an effort to get over (on a saturday!) next visit.

so that wasn't too late at all, thank you very much!!
