All I can say nicely is Whisky Tango Foxtrot!

lol no its not a bad thing but I have no clue as to this piece?

What is is, part of a suit? or just a nice overcoat? Its crotchet like with metallic threading too. the metallic doesn't show well, i took a picture with the flash(behind the label) to show it. Its looks like copper almost and darkened with age... Did they use real metals on metallic threading?

This thing is HEAVY I would say 2-3 pounds and it is unlined. Is it a ribbon coat? It is cool to the touch but no way for me to tell the fabric... it i to tightly twisted into these thick yarn pieces and then there is NO where to snip fabric without destroying the integrity.

The buttons have the same material over them but you can tell when looking closely they are either shell or pearalized.... there is also a strip behind the buttons of lace/satin to keep the buttons from pulling through,

It has been tailored to fit exactly to the woman and the extra material is in there, I suppose to allow growing room?

So my questions are
1. Age guess? ( I was thinking late 40s? even 50s) but the label looks older to me, but there are no shoulder pads or snaps for any and this seems to be high quality.
2. Its purpose, just a coat?
3. Who is the maker or any information on him would be much appreciated.
and lastly 4. any guess on fabric weave, terms or actual type?

There are no seams to picture because it appears as if it was finished with the crocheting technique? The only place I saw thread was at the tailoring darts.

Sorry so long but I have held onto this a year now thinking by this time I would have figured it out, but I haven't.

So I am leaving it up to y'all... the most wonderful vintage connoisseurs I know!

Thank you

Well so far I found out they got registered in Nov 1949 and found they are still in business? or their registration was renwed in 1977 and is good til 2017, they are based in paris? I have no clue,,, lol

saw a necklace for 900 opening big though, thats somewhat encouraging!

So is this formt he 30s? That link says up until 1940 the Newyork store used this kind of label. and in 1940 with the war, they had to make all their own labels and they all used Inc. or inc. after the name....

so the label is older but the style doesnt look that old to me... I mean I felt like it was that old but my head says it is not unless it was just ahead of its time fashionwise? Or am I thinking entirely off track?

Thank you for the link,. I had found the 1949 one but not this one!

I also found the brand mentioned in a Courtuer book, but they are referred to as a "small" name compared to Chanel and such lol.. I imagine since I have no clue who they are.

From google News Archives:

Ahhh...here is another from1943

May 12, 1943 - A handsome new shop and a lot of new ideas were revealed with the opening yesterday afternoon of Henry a la Pensee at 9 East Fifty-fifth Street. For several years this accessory house from Paris has been across the street from its present address. ...

So I would assume your jacket is 1943 or after with the address.

Thank you,,, I was thinking 40s... thought the label isnt correct without the inc. I am guessing lol or perhaps it is later 40s after the war?

Who knows....

Anyone have any ideas of materials,,,, and I assume this is and knitted from the article.

Thank you for your help!

I may rick drycleaning this one,,, I mean at this point it was basically free (ive made my money back) and I think it would sell better freshened up? Or does anyone thing it holds collectors value? If so then a drycleaning is not worth the risk.

Thanks again

I am guessing post war, maybe 47ish, due to the longer length and probably had a matching skirt at one time.

I agree with the style being post '47. Greys were also popular in the '50s so I would date your jacket (which as Brenda mentioned was probably part of a suit) as '47 to mid '50s (after that the styles became less fitted).

Thank you,,,, its not grey though a wiered cream/goldish with dark copper like threads throughout. i have not come across any colo or material like it before. thats why i was thrown for a loop.

is henr a la pensee collectable? the jewlery is but the clothes?

I've seen similar materials in the '60s but your jacket appears to be earlier than that.

As far as collectable goes, I put a great deal of faith in the VFG label resource: designers not represented there tend not to be as sought after.

ok thanks :-)

maybe we should put it in there then , hahaha :-)

I guess I will hang on to her for a little while longer then.

While the name may not be sought after or collectable as a label for clothing, I think it is a very nice piece in it's own right. The name may bring in collectors of the jewelry pieces and would probably pair up nicely with the jacket.

Versatility is worth something, and nice jackets are great as separates to wear with jeans, or a skirt.

If it is in good condition and if you can get the copper color to show a little better I still think it should command a decent price. Just speculating but if it is very soft to the touch, maybe it is a rayon knit?
