Unsure if dress is 80s/ 90s

I have another dress that I'm unsure of it's era. It's a peplum style (I think) and has shoulder pads, which is why I thought it was 80s, but the shoulder pads are thin so I'm not sure if it's 90s. It's also acetate and has a tie back waist. Thanks in advanced!

Thank you! Is it okay if you guys also explain why you think it's an certain decade if it's not too much trouble? So I can learn how to identify decades in the future? Thanks so much!

I'm trying to remember when that actual tie in the back thing was more common...I'm thinking the late 80s.

The actual company is Fairweather Inc...which Beechers Brook was a division of.

Unfortunately the actual CA number (01595) is not of much help as the numbers in the Canadian system were all updated in 1997 & so many of them read that date but many are before that time.

In many cases there are clues in the labels themselves. As you become more accustomed to vintage, you will begin to notice the many differences in the actual labels and the content labels and you may be able to use the numbers that are associated to the companies to help you date the items.

Thank you, that is very helpful. Hopefully I will be able to do that one day (:

Early '90s for me too - that tie was used up to the mid '90s.

As MJ says, it's in the labels but also the fabric, style, the shoulder line, the skirt. The skirt! The skirt looks a bit shorter than I would expect, can you tell if it's been shortened, perhaps a tier removed?

I will go with early 90s then :) It doesn't seem like the skirt has been shortened. The longer tier is connected to a lining, which has should pads connected to it so I think those were the only 2 layers. On me the dress falls to about the knees; is that common in the 80s or that length started to gain popular in the 90s? Thanks for helping!

I find that 80s skirt lengths tend to be well below the knee to mid calf, and I am 5'9. The length does suggest 90s to me.
