hi, l have these two unusual style pins / brooches and they also double up as scarf clips...

they came from my grandmothers estate (she lived in Mexico, and was well travelled), she was 92 when she died in 2000.

Many of her personal possessions were unfortunately looted, before my father got there, (and l know she had wardrobes full of bags, shoes, scarves, loads of Paris couture, many Chanel suits from 20s-60s, and it all gone), but my mother gave me these, because they were unusual and she wondered if l could find something out about them and sell them...

l dont like them, but appreciate they are interesting.

they are made of metal, an opaque gun metal colour, the bug is darkest than the leaf.... lots of detail, the pearls are faux l'm sure as they have some light indentations...
the back has marks pressed into it, though some lettering is hidden...

the fastening and design smacks of 30s to me, BUT scarf clips were around in 50s were they earlier??
and what should l do with them...

thanks sara x

i actually quite like them sara, and you get the feeling that someone must know about these! (sadly not me).

what a shame about your grandmothers things. in my case it was my grandfather that was to blame - i got a phonecall from my mother after she died to say grandad was clearing out 'and had just filled a second dustbin full of old shoes'. needless to say i was too late!

I think they're great! They look 30's to me, too. I love the bug one. They did wierd stuff like that in the 30's. We can probably thank Sciapperelli and Adrian for that... as well as the Surrealist movement.
