Vale Eartha Kitt

Fellow vinties, I'm sure you love Eartha as much as I do - she passed away yesterday (Christmas Day) aged 81. A wonderful woman and a fascinating life, she'll be sadly missed.

I've posted to Circa's blog about her here.

Can't resist sharing a clip of - "I want to be evil".

Oh, I loved her.... I was saddened to hear this news. She was a lady who did things on her own terms.

I remember as a child in the 60s right up through my teens in the early 70s really admiring her (well, actually all through my life, but she was an influence on me during that timeframe), both as a singer and an actress--loved her as Catwoman! My dad thought she was great (I think he thought she was hot, but of course he couldn't tell me that!).

And I'll never forget the dust-up when she had the courage to speak out at the White House against the war. That created quite a stir back then, but I imagine most younger people would not have heard of it.

The world is not quite so rich without her in it....

Thanks for posting that, Nicole, I hadn't heard the sad news. It was interesting reading her obituary -- I hadn't realized the extent of the hardships she endured in her early life, or that it resulted in her later advocacy for homeless children.

I saw her perform twice, once in the 80s, when she was at the peak of her revived career thanks to the song Cha Cha Heels she did with the Pet Shop Boys, and once again in the 90s when she was noticeably losing her voice and energy. I am so happy I had the chance to see her though - she was a real performer.
