Velvet Dye Bleeding?

I have a gorgeous Antique album of blue velvet with copper trim.

Someone in the past covered it with plastic to protect it.
I of course took the cover off. I am assuming since it did not breathe the fabric color now basically comes off
on my hands.
I will recover I guess with plastic wrap or something but is there anything on the market to seal it or stabilize it from doing this? I would not have to if I could seal it.
Spray? Hair spray or something.
I know not clothing but thought maybe a fabric person or restorer may know something.
Thanks for any help.

It sounds like the dye has become unstable.

Sandy if you try an art supply shop, they should have a spray fixative you could use.

I wouldn't generally recommend it for antique fabrics as the chemicals might affect the colour but in this case it could be a better alternative to covering in plastic.

Thank you both. I don't want to throw it away. The inside is great. At last resort I will save the beautiful copper metal parts.
Daisies.
I will try the fixative. I collect postcards and it was chock full of them.
