Verfication and date of Ossie Clark dress

Hi, I wonder if anyone would be able to help with dating an Ossie Clark dress I have. It is in excellent condition, so much so, that I am almost dubious it is vintage. There are two layers - a pure silk dalmation spotty slip and a silk organza spotty shell. I cant seem to upload pics of the label, but it is black with gold lettering, so clearly it is a later rather than earlier dress. I can send these separately if anyone thinks they could help. Many thanks in advance. Lynette

Hmmm...the label does appear to be the same or very similar. I am a bit skeptical of the way it is attached to the dress.
I am not qualified to say if it is an Ossie or not. Especially by a photo. You might try searching for something like Ossie Clark black and white spotted dress and see if you can find another one like it.

It just doesn't look like any Ossie I have ever seen.

My concern was that I know the label was resurrected in 2008 for a short while and maybe it hailed from then, rather than being a vintage piece.

I am struggling with getting the pics up on here... but hopefully this will load. I have done a little more research and I have found a similarly stitched label from circa early 80s that was sold at a UK auction house., but cant find another dress anything like this. The breadth of the shoulders is also reminiscent of the early 80s.

Thanks to everyone for their help. For info I have now had the dress verified by a UK auction house - early 1980s and guide price of £400 to £600.

I would get a second opinion if you haven't already.

I couldn't get a decent photo but it reminds me of the dress Diana wore when Prince William was born in 1982, though hers was green with white spots.

I am not as familiar with the member's shops & identities here on the forum as others are, they may contact you themselves or better still if you look at the list of trade members you can see what areas they deal in.

We don't openly give valuations on the forum which is why it is best if you approach suitable people directly.

There are a number of VFG members who know about Ossie Clark, but you need a professional valuer for something like this and Kerry Taylor is a pretty good opinion - I don't think you necessarily need another opinion, but of course, what the dress sells for won't necessarily be in this range.

I would date it as very early '80s, about '81-82, the print has a bit of a "new wave" look about it and prints like this were popular then.

Thanks for you help. Much appreciated. I appreciate it is merely a guide, but will keep you posted on the outcome.
