Hey everyone

I am rather new to this forum and the world of vintage clothing, but I do have a few pieces that have been passed down to me and am very interested in learning more about it.

Recently, I have bought a piece from a local thrift shop and I fell in love with it. it has some loose seams by the pits and it has a tiny stain but overall it is in good condition and pits can be re-stitched.

The label says Victoria Royal LTD. Made in British Crown Colony of Hong Kong

I cannot find a lot of information about the Victoria Royal LTD or anything about the decade when this piece was made, and was wondering if anyone here would know more about the company and can help date it. Thank you.

Most of these tops and jackets beaded in Hong Kong are from the 1950's-60's. I would have said yours was from the 1960's, due to the large floral design and brighter pink colour. It might have been worn over a slub silk evening dress the same colour colour.

I posted on another forum and thought you might be interested :). The designer is Oscar Montalto. he was my late great uncle on my father's side. He designed original gOwns personally for Princess Grace Kelly. my mother took me as a child to see some of his gowns on display behind glass in New York. my father told me that oscar would sketch his designs on napkins at various restaurants and then absentmindedly leave them behind. He was a brilliant designer and a rare gem. My mother had several gOwns given to her but I do not know what happened to them and both my parents have since passed away. My favorite gOwn that she wore was of coral chiffon with a beautifully beaded bodice. I hope this helps! :)

That's good to have a designer name associated with Victoria Royal Ltd. I have never been able to find anything about that company or anyone associated with it. The company shows up in about 1960ish following in the footsteps of Dynasty, which was the first off shore company to locate in Hong Kong in 1953.

thanks so much for posting about your great uncle oscar montalto, guiseppette. it's wonderful to know this background on the company. i've had several victoria royal evening gowns, always beautifully designed and constructed, always with beading/embellishments. for some reason i've associated it with dynasty, as perhaps a subdivision of dynasty, who also produced beautifully made and embellished evening wear.

i'm sorry for your loss of your parents.
