Hello all :)

So, I think I am becoming more and more in love with Victorian/Edwardian clothing! Also finding that I really want to understand it from a historical perspective - even if I can learn to train my eye to a certain style, I want to know the why behind it. I just love vintage clothing and fashion history!

Anyway! lol. I found a few pieces recently and thought I would post for you to chime in on. (thank you for all your help!) Hope it's OK to post these all at once - is it preferred to list them in separate threads?

I am thinking the corseted tops are Victorian, but I guess the floral one is throwing me off a bit. The skirt also seems Edwardian maybe? The sheer top I also thought Edwardian, the shawl I am not quite sure. (it has a iridescent blue quality to it), the beaded collar (my favorite piece!) I am thinking Victorian. I am really not sure on the long lace dress - maybe later - 30s perhaps?

Oh - the green corset top has a label. I'll post it.

I only see three items.

The first boned bodice is 1894 - 96 because of the leg o' mutton sleeves and the flat fitted front.
The second bodice is just a hair later maybe - 1896 - 1897ish.
The loose sheer blouse is later Teens I would think.

Note that the bodices are boned but are not corsets. They were boned to make them fit smoothly and were worn over a corset that would shape the body and take the strain.

I'd love to see the other pieces.

okay - the skirt , I need to see the back.

The shawl, not too sure. Edwardian sounds good

The beaded collar - 1900 - 1910

The lace dress - 1930s

I think the skirt is 1890s as well. It would have been worn over petticoats to make the hem stand out.

Hi there,
Those items are beautiful! What great finds. I want to suggest a great book for you. It's called " Victorian Fashions & Costumes from Harper's Bazar 1867 - 1898" by Dover Publications. I bought mine on ebay for about $10. It has pix on every page telling about the style, era ect... It's a fun book to look through & is about 300 pages so there's alot of infoformation. Happy hunting in the future:hiya:
