Again the lady who sold these to me says Victorian. Way out of my league, as usual. Or is it just stuff??? Any help thankful!!:help:
1. This is a mesh belt with plastic rings, some undone. 2. A Cameo made of some sort of very light see-through plastic. 3. Pin/Brooch with metal . 4. Gold tone chain and frame with Jet black carved cameo and marcasite. All need cleaning...dates, description on some would help! Thank you to everyone for all your help over the years of my learning! :cheer:

I can't help much with dating for you although to my untrained eye, most of this doesn't look old enough to be Victorian. I am sure someone will come along and give you better info and that I am probably wrong - I should just stay quiet! :)

I can tell you that I do very well with cameos - especially the more unique cameos similar to your last photo. Anything I get with a cameo on it doesnt last long. We sell at a local flea market and people stop by every weekend looking for new cameos and they are gone within a few hours. There really seems to be a market for them.

Good luck getting info!

I am running out the door but I think all the pieces are much later - probably '30's-'40's and maybe later Victorian Revival. Will look more closely when I return, or someone else will comment.

Well, I don't know anywhere near as much about jewelry as many folks here, but I agree they aren't old enough to be Victorian. The pin clasps on the brooches are much newer, I believe, and the metalwork on the back of the first cameo in particular looks "comparatively" recent--like maybe 40s or early 50s. Don't really know about the rest, but I don't think any of it is Victorian. Some very pretty pieces, though!

I am not a jewelry expert, so take it with a grain of salt. 2) My first guess on the first cameo is 1960s - on the later end o the decade -, esp if its a good size. Folks liked their huge plastic cameos then. 3) I agree - the hardware on pin #3 looks too modern for Victorian. 4) If the second cameo is real jet, jet was popular through the 1920s or so, though you'll find a lot of imitators through the 30s or so. Look for any mold marks or numbers to giveaway a copycat (or if its cold - its glass). Also, the carving details will be very sharp vs soft and rounded off. But I am going to tend towards later. I would try to id whether its plastic, glass, whatever, etc. if its not jet so people don't get the wrong impression.

Also, keep in mind there was a big marquisite revival in the 1990s - but I don't think the last piece is from then.

OH MY! Thank you everyone! :excited: I didn't have a clue about these pieces. So much great info. I live in a Retirement Community and often, not to be mean, but many of my elder female ladies get confused about times and dates, so I like getting a better opinion. I did research but revival is a new name to me. I'll check that out. MUCH MUCH THANKS!

I wonder if the belt is from the 1920s? You see a lot of chain work then. Can you tell what the rings are made of? Eg, bakelite or just plastic?

I agree that the other pieces could be '40s to '60s.

That belt *is* lovely and appears very well made. Let's have a closer look at the closure (can you flip it over to where it opens?).

What is wrapped around the bottom ring? Is it black thread? Black chain? Can you spread open the fringe of that bottom tassel and expose what is beneath?
The bottom ring is what looks like a sterling silver sturdy hook. Hope the photos help.

Those are great pics Nadene, and thank you for showing them.

I'm still not getting an older vibe with this piece, although it is 'in the style' of earlier periods as mentioned.

I'll tell you what I'm seeing and not seeing, and then you can decide. The first thing that jumps out at me, as it did before, is the brushed nickel plating on the clasp, along with it's squared cut.

Also the wear of the thin silvering on that jump ring and on the bead caps (both the filigree outer one and inside 'bell').

It's unlikely that the rings are bakelite or catalin, if it were a 20's/early 30's piece (you won't see it used as adornment just yet, but more for industrial or utility items), but it could be if the piece were later. Or, it could be galalith or celluoid if it is in fact this early.

It's not connecting for me as this early, from what I can see in the pics, however it is very well made and thinking closer to 60's/70's on it, if it has age. Wish I had it in hand of course, lol, but I'm sure you'll get more opinions on it. :)
