Vintage Black Velvet Cape - 20\'s? 30\'s? 40\'s?

Please help the cape impaired!

The cocoon shape of this makes me think that it could be from the 1920's. But the length makes me think it's later - perhaps from the 40's?

There are no tags (that would make it too easy!). The bottom has a ruched drape, like theater curtains (not sure if there's a term for this detail).

It feels like silk velvet and is lined with cream silk (which sadly, is shattering). Any insight would be welcome - I cannot figure this out!

hmmm I would be inclined to say 20s, it looks a bit 'floppy' for 40s to me.
The slouchy pockets ,quite high but soft collar and the curved, longer back hem point me to 20s. Shame I cant feel the velvet.

Something is saying 20s/30s to me. Whatever the date, it is gorgeous!

Ohh - thank you! I was hoping it was 20's, but I have never dealt with a cape from that era.

The velvet is lovely and very soft - it's just such a nightmare to get a good shot of black velvet - even under the best conditions!

can you give us CB / CF measurements Susan ? I can see what Mary means about it possibly being even earlier but it looks a wee bit short to me to be pre 20s. A bit tricky to tell from the photo though.

Heading out in a bit for a haircut and color (!) but can measure this when I get back. But what are CB and CF measurements?
