Vintage Cardin HELP

Hi there,
I am interested in purchasing a vintage Cardin coat. The seller says it's from the 1970s, but I want to make sure it's really a Pierre designed coat, and not licensee junky. Can anyone offer tips? I.e. what the label should look like, etc?
Thanks!

I don;t know what advice i could offer without seeing a photo of the coat.

However, items that are from the 60s or the earlier part of the 70s are generally a bit more desirable because Monsieur Cardin would have more of a hand in the design versus the more licensed era of the late 70s, 80s. 90s

The "Creation Pierre Cardin" label in particular is usually a good indicator..but it is not the only label to look for.

There is a good representation of labels in the label resource to date it as far as establishing the timeframe that it was made in. To me knowledge, there is not as many "fakes" out there as there are just licensed products. He was a good businessman/marketer of his name and some licensed products are low quality, but some are very high.

The other thing - if you really like it and think it would be a striking addition to your wardrobe - if you are collecting to wear and not put away for posterity...even if it was licensed..i wouldn't spend a fortune on it but personally i would say why not but that's just me.

Thanks for the advice! It has a black label, with gold stitching that reads Pierre CARDIN centered on it, with Paris in the lower left hand corner, and New York in the lower right. IT's silk lined, and the construction looks great to me, but it's over $400, and I don't want to spend that on licensed prod. I know he started a licensing agreement with CHina in 1979, so I"m curious to know if there's any way to differentiate the labels from the 1970s; if they differ at all.
THANKS AGAIN!

That is a great coat! Wonderful styling. Just looked at your label pic and
it does look like the original Cardin label (and, not sure how you can tell if it is original to the coat).

Hi,
Welcome to the vfg!
I'd like to try to help you with your coat questions but I wanted to give you a few tips on posting first.
When you start a thread on a question or subject and then want to follow up with additional questions or photos it is best to do so on the original thread. You can just 'reply' to that thread with follow up questions and post photos instead of starting a new thread each time. This keeps everything in 1 place so it is easy to follow and less confusing. For instance if I just click on your latest post with the picture I have no idea why you posted it or what your question is.
Also it is easier for you to come back to one thread and see what answers you may have received rather than checking the four or five threads that you started.
Anyway, just a tip.

As for the coat, it looks 70's to me. The label looks right for Cardin.
Chris-patentleathershoes-posted a link above to the label resource for Cardin and your lable looks alot like the one I have on there. Mine was from a 60's dress though and was black on white label as opposed to white on black label.
I agree with Lizzie that your label looks like it has been resewn on (sloppily) which could indicate that it was added but it could also just mean that it fell off and was reapplied.
Unless you know for sure that Cardin produced that style coat you wont know for sure if the label was added. Therefore you will need to rely on the reputation of the seller. Is she reputable? Will she accept returns?
Is this on ebay? I looked but couldn't find it. I did however find othe PC coats on ebay that were similar and they were much less than $400.
Perhaps if you tell us who the seller is we can share with you if we know anything about them.
