Hi!

I have two vintage dance costume. Both have metal zippers and labels. That's as much as I know about them. Do any of you know what type of dance these would have been used for? It would be very cool if it was a show girl costume or something like that. I noticed that both must have been worn by someone pretty tall, as they are both really long. Any additional information you may have would be really helpful! Thank you!

Those look like costumes for baton-twirling majorettes, like these lovely ladies from the University of Alabama

Those are great outfits! I really like the second one with the flowers.

Algy Dance Costumes in Hallandale, Florida is still open for business. They can probably tell you how old these are.

Thank you! I am suprised.

I can see the connection, but this style seems revealing for the time period. Any chance it was used for some other type of dance?

they're really not all that revealing for the period. going by the style, colors, tag, etc., they appear to be from the early 60s.

1950s or early 60s was my thinking. But whenever I look up majorette costumes from that time period they all have skirts attached.

I associate that stretchy all over sequin material with the '80s because the first time I saw it was in 1982 - I'm sure it was available before then though. Perhaps if you contact the retailer, they might be able to date it from the labels?
