Hi, I posted about this on Ebay's vintage clothes forum but thought I'd ask here as well. I have a vintage Christian Dior dress -- late 50s or early 60s (based on the labels and style), black velvet with short sleeves and empire waist, in excellent condition -- but I can't figure out how to price it. I've found Dior dresses from that era listed for a few hundred dollars up to a thousand or more. I just wondered if anybody here has seen a similar style dress or can give me additional information about it.

The lining is a stiff material (like organza) and there's a row of little buttons around the inside neckline. Some of the Ebay boardies said this was probably for a detachable collar. There's also a white string looped through the sleeve that possibly held a price tag?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

With the Empire waist, I'd say 60s. Martha was a high end boutique. Yes, I agree the buttons are for a collar. And I would also say the collar was a major design element since the dress is so simple, almost basic. Since it is missing, the value would be adversely affected by that and all I can suggest is to look at the lower end of the price range.
