Vintage Dress, would like to know approximate date it was made

Hello!
My Gramma recently died and I found this folded up in a box. I had to do some repairs to the seam on the waist, but otherwise dress is in fine condition. Dress may appear faded in picture but is not. It has no stains. I was wondering if I could get any help with dating it.
It is made out of a satiny/silk material, with a purple and blue flower print. I am sorry the pictures are not very good, this is the best I could come up with. There is a zipper that runs up the side. It fits a very thin person, which gives me reason to think it was my Gramma's or Great Gramma's. Its with out a question older than the 80s, because its been a while since the dress has seen sunlight.
It appears to be hand made, which is no surprise because my Gramma was a seamstress . Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks!
-Jessica

It's hard for us give a value because it depends on so many things - the seller, the selling venue, etc. You can get an idea by searcing for similar dresses on eBay completed listings.

The personal value is perhaps a bigger deal, and if you were thinking of keeping it, I wouldn't expect the resale value for a handmade 40s dress to be so high that it would change your mind. It's lovely family memento.

It's definitely 1940's and the fabric looks to be Rayon. Novelty prints always fetch more money that plain items :) nice piece.
