vintage fashion fairs

ok i am going to bite the bullet and try and sell some of my vintage clothes and accessories etc at a vintage fashion fair, i have been selling some on ebay, and i have also been selling to dealers so they can sell them on.

But i was thinking just dive straight in and do one at the Blind Lemon Vintage fairs

i have been on their website and had a quick look at some of their pics of the fairs and i am a bit confused, as i seen someone selling jeans, i presume they are levi's etc.

so is there more modern clothes in these fairs too?

also how good are they,is there a good turnout of buyers etc.....

I know Edwin who runs the Blind Lemon fairs and he's a great guy. It's his stand that has the vintage jeans but most of the stands mostly sell women's vintage clothing and accessories. He's pretty strict about modern stuff not being included (he also doesn't allow furs) so it's mostly 70's and before you will find at his fairs.

I used to do his fairs regularly (mostly the Bristol ones, Cheltenham and when he used to have them in Nottingham) but stopped as the internet is my main market and I got fed up of people trying on and breaking my earlier dresses not knowing what size they really were!!!:teeth: Plus Edwin stopped having the Nottingham one which was the closest one to me.

I did enjoy going to his ones but never been to the Cardiff one. TBH, i think the Cardiff fair from what I hear, is one of the better attended ones.

thanks Lei:USETHUMBUP:

its mainly 50's 60's and 70's with a few cc41 items...I also have quite a few mens items, so will have to have a rummage through...lol...

i also had a burberry world war 1 trench coat in this week, but its needs work doing to it, i think its going to be more of a study case item... but it does have all its buttons.

what size stalls/space do you have and how much are they?

they are advertising one in swansea for the first time, which is where i live...

Hi - Just found this -
--------
All stalls at a Blind Lemon Vintage Fashion Fair are sized according to the following;
Single - 3m by 2m APPROX Double - 6m by 2m APPROX Triple - 9m by 2m APPROX

The prices at each Fair differ slightly according to the venue but are usually around the £75 mark for a single space. Early Bird and volume discounts normally apply. There are usually 30-35 stalls at each Fair.

-----------

I would be tempted to do something like this if it were near my home. I can see the disadvantage of items getting worked over roughly, but the great advantage for me is that customers can inspect the article closely. I spend so much time online describing flaws, which are usually not noticeable anyway. But I think online buyers have been burned so many times any mention of a flaw scares them away.

ooo thank you for the info, i really appreciate it.

to be honest i have sold items on ebay in the past, but as you say, there are alot of buyers who just dont read the discription, i allways try to be as honest as i can with discribing any flaws or marks etc, in the end i have made it sound like a minger...lol....

I was thinking of doing a Blind Lemon fair, and also doing a general Antique fair too, maybe one in shepton mallet or go to kempton race coarse on tuesday, as i have heard that is a good sale

The next thing will be pricing things:help:...lol

how do you price things?

ok i will give you an instance

oooo i am going to book a stall , but i am not to sure which one:puzzled:

Cardiff or Bristol?

first of all i thought Cardiff, but then i seen that Bristol is based in/near a collage/uni, so thought there might be more people..

ooooo heck.....

has anyone been to either of these two?

I am in the middle of getting tags done etc, to make my image is professional etc....which i dont think my email to Blind Lemon sounded......lol..

are there any other vintage/retro clothes fairs around?

Hi there, I am based in the East of England but have done a few vintage and antique fairs. I don't sell just clothing though and my stall is quite mixed with vintage picnic sets, windbreaks, deckchairs etc. I find that I sell alot more in one day at a fair compared to what I sell online in a month! However I must admit I haven't really put much on line yet! I find fairs really good fun and have met loads of great people - both other stall holders and customers! The only snag is I end up spending any profit!! I tend to do independent fairs around Suffolk/ Norfolk at the moment but next year I am venturing to Brighton and plan to do 'Frock me' there and 'Affordable Vintage Fashion fair' in London. I also find that I do better at vintage fairs rather than antique fairs. Good luck with your ventures - I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. If Blind Lemon was nearer I would definately visit but I'm at the wrong end of the country! Hope it goes well for you.
