Hello all,
I picked up this piece in a vintage store in southern Australia.
I thought it may be muskrat but I'm not so sure.
I couldn't find any makers marks on it, and I'm struggling to identify what era it came from and what animal.
It's soft and has glossy guard hairs, but a somewhat unpleasant texture to the touch (for me anyway!) that I would have mistaken for synthetic fur if I didn't know better.
It's made entirely of short, narrow, rectangular leather strips sewn together.
It's a more uniform golden brown colour than it appears in the closeup photographs.
The images of the whole coat are a more accurate representation of its colour.
Inbetween the lining and leather is another layer of course fabric. It closes with simple metal hook clasps.
It must have been designed with very cold weather in mind! Colder than the city I found it in, that's for sure.
If these photos are too low quality just let me know and I'll try again.
