Vintage Fur Help Sable ?

Hi all ! I purchased this fur coat at a resale shop, it was labeled as mink but was identified by a wealthy consignee as sable. I know that sable is a wild mink, but I don't know how to tell the difference. The coat has a remarkably soft hand and a wonderful luster. It has a single pom pom style button closure. A sort of turtle like collar. It also came with a muff/purse that has a metal zip closure, stamped "Gripper Zipper". The color of the fur changes when the nap is combed up or down. I demonstrated this with the muff. No inside lables, beisdes the monogrammed initials. Was hoping to get some info on the date and fur type. Looks 40s/50s to me.

That's a very nice coat! It looks like sheared beaver to me. I'm not sure there would be any adantage to shearing sable as the fur is quite lovely as it is. However, I could certainly be wrong. You'd have to take it to a furrier to be absolutely sure.
