vintage gold necklace

In my Mothers' jewellry was an old necklace made of metal squares. It mesures 18" across the top and has a Rau Fastener Co. snap to join it. The necklace has been heavily coated with gold. It is NOT a kerchief or scarf design. The little squares join by circles on the under side and count 3 squares down, then 5/6, 6/7 etc. until you reach the centre. At centre front it is 9/10. Very Egyptian styled appearance. Has anyone seen another like this and can anyone give me a date. I'm thinking 1920's but maybe 1930's. I have loved it since I was a small child and am now a senior.Mom just passed at 93.

I think it would help if you could post a photo , normally any thing Egyptian styled come slightly after Howard Carter opening Tutankhamun tomb so you could be talking 1923 and maybe after the items when on display to the public so maybe a little later on.

Hello,

Yes a photo is needed to give an idea on the dating. There was a revival of Egyptian jewelry in the early 1960s after the film Cleopatra came out (1963?), and also in the later 1950s and your necklace could one of those massive bib types that were so popular then. Of course, even better if it is 1920s or 30s.
