Vintage Hair ad from the 30’s

This is from a 1934 “Silver Screen” magazine - and in the text it says - “...Fashion has one stern rule: Whatever the style of your Spring costuming, your hair must be in wave. Straight hair is conspicuously out of place.” (Italics are theirs.)

I don't get my hair done very often, but when I do get fingerwaves it takes over 3 hours!
By the end of the appointment I'm squirming so bad to get out of that chair, I can hardly stand it!
I don't know how women could handle it.

i remember mom wrapping (wet) tendrils of hair round and round and fixing them in place with bobby pins criss-crossed (like an x) then spraying, spraying, and THEN keeping them in either all day, or overnight.

my hair was so darn straight, tho, after taking them out, it'd be uncurly within the hour...

really annoyed my mom...
