Vintage hat questions

I have a few vintage hats that I am trying to describe. I know nothing at all about hats so apologies in advance for my ignorance. This is a Laddie Northridge. Can anyone tell me what the protruding wire stand-like things are on the side? Any other relevant terms would be appreciated as well. I don't even know what this kind of hat is called. Thanks!

Hello,

That is a darling little hat. Laddie Northridge is a favorite milliner of mine. It dates from the early 1950s. There are several ways to describe the hat, but I would call the shape a calot. The little side pieces have a variety of names, some call them "side burns" or simply "prongs". They are for securing the hat to the hair, and can either just clutch the head like tiny clamps, or more common is that they are used along with bobby pins, etc.

Thank you for sharing it with us.
