Hi everyone!
Just found the forums while trying to find info on one of the labels in one the dresses I found this week: Cojana.

The other two are:
a beige, jewel-neck, knee-length sheath dress by Peggy French Couture( maybe 1960s?), and
a black, scoop-neck, bias-cut knee-length mermaid hem cocktail dress by Frank Usher (possibly 80s by the sleeves) .

I don't know how to private message or anything, but you can e-mail me at the following e-mail for photos or to chat!

Thanks!

Hi,
Thank you. I bought the beige sheath to wear to present at an academic conference in 3 weeks. There's no material tag and there are some light stains (of course!) down the front. I showed it to a friend and she says she couldn't see the light stains until I pointed it out. But I love it. It's classic and it would be perfect. I took it to the dry cleaners and since they don't know what the material of the dress is, and don't know what kind of stains, they don't know if the stains will come out. If this is possible, did Peggy French make all her dresses out of one type of material?

As far as the Frank Usher is concerned, it feels like a polyester, perhaps? But again, no material tag.

For the Cojana, it's a long-sleeved, jewel-necked, A-line with the hem that reaches just below the knee. I'd maybe put it in the 1960s, if I had to guess. Oh, and the material is a thick, shimmery, charcoal grey, but wouldn't know how to start to guess on the type of fabric. What can you tell me about the label? I couldn't find anything on the VFG label resource...Thank you!

if you send me images of the fabric, sometimes helps to take a pic on the inside at a seam so you can see the selvedge,.....
or send me a link to where you ahve them online, photobucket or some such..

they are bound all to be dry clean....I have some of Peggy french, many of her fabric were rayon, faux slub silk, bejelled would probably need specialist too..

a good dry cleaner like sketchleys or a local specialist would be better than the usual chains....you will have to sign a disclaimer, but they will use their experience to clean it..

or buy some of the dry cleaning cloths and put it through the dryer on cold...

but l will be able to confirm if l see the fabrics.. and stains..

Hi,
Yes, I figure they all will be. I took the Peggy French to a cleaners the other day, but then changed my mind, since the store I bought it in told me that they take things to the cleaners before putting them out on the floor.

I did have to sign a disclaimer, but the owners are unsure whether the light dots will come out.

Since the 3 are at the tailors right now, I can get photos to you the middle of next week. How far is Carlisle from Glasgow? The vintage shop owners here are indifferent about the local dry cleaners, at least, 4 that I've asked are. 1 says that her clothes comes back in the exact same way she takes them to the cleaners in, and she sees very little change, if any. -shrugs- Based on their experience, I'm hesitant to try the cleaners here. Oh, and the stains on the Peggy French aren't visible in photos. But it could be the light/flash/no-flash...Will be in touch!
