Hello. I am wondering if anyone might have information on a vintage McClintock label
I cannot find any like it online and it appears to be hand machined and hand detailed on the label.
I am wondering if this might be a prototype from when Jessica McClintock was in school 1947 onwards in San Jose ? It would fit the period.
It’s an oriental style black velvet jacket.

The sewing lines are not perfect or straight but it is a very nice jacket. Nice design and I have always loved it. I have recently posted on our local marketplace for sale as I’m between places in life. But something keeps telling me to look further into this. I have not seen any other McClintock labels like this and my sense is this is not mass produced.

Grateful for info as well as a more appropriate platform for a collector.

Nice jacket!
It definitely looks much later than 1947 and I don't believe a label including "San Francisco" would have been made when she was in San Jose? Also, it appears Jessica attended Boston University from 1947-49, then got married and attended/graduated from San Jose State University. Jessica didn't move to San Francisco until the very late 1960s.
According to wikipedia, a McClintock label began in 1979:
"In 1979, two new clothing lines were created: One was to target girls with the Gunne Sax line, and the other was a secondary contemporary line under the McClintock name/label." Other sources seem to indicate that that line was not simply called "McClintock", however.
It is indeed frustratingly hard to find label info other than the infamous Gunne Sax!
THIS article unfortunately doesn't mention a "McClintock" line.
Are there any other labels? It appears that a (possible care/size) label has been cut from below the main label?
Perhaps you could try contacting the Jessica McClintock company with an inquiry.

Thank you.
San Jose state university is close to San Francisco. Perhaps she lived in the city while attending the school

I do wonder about this label and stage of the company… and what is the next best step for it.

This jacket looks early 80s to me. Jessica McClintock's name and labels were already well-established by then. So, this may be an early Scott McClintock, her son, or somebody else entirely. I grew up in San Francisco and they (Jessica/Gunne) had a huge warehouse store for their seconds, mistakes, flaws and otherwise less-than-perfect items. When I see an odd item or label that may be related to them, I wonder if it was sold in the factory seconds shop. That's where my sister bought one of her prom dresses (the other was Betsy Johnson!).
