Vintage mink- help!

Hi there!

This may be my first vintage fur purchase but it’s unbranded, no tags at all and it doesn’t look like a tag would have been cut or ripped out from anywhere. It’s being sold as mink from a luxury vintage shop. Is it fairly common to find ones without tags? Tale tale signs it’s real? It is very soft and heavy. Any help is appreciated!

It's great looking coat. Can you show a close up of the fur? It does not look like mink skins, as I am not seeing any joining/seaming? It almost looks like faux fur but I cannot tell. We have a wonderful fur expert here in the VFG and she may come along soon.

That’s the most close up I got

I agree that it’s very hard to tell from the pictures, but I will say that the way the cuffs are done make it look like it could be faux fur to me as well. It seems like the fabric is gathered and then the cuff sewn around it, which I don’t think is very commonly done with real fur.

I'm kind of new to this so I may not be 100% right on this but it looks a lot like the mohair coat I got from my grandma so that could be it. If that is right then it's technically faux fur but the fibers are still natural so they'll still be plush and soft.

Hello all,

Thank yall for your help and input. The Luxary resale shop let me take it to a local furrier to get it checked out and he confirmed that it is indeed a real mink coat. Female, mahogany mink. You can see in one photo where there striping and he said those areas are sheered to give it that look! He felt like it was in really good shape, he said it’s most likely been relined and that’s why it doesn’t have any tags. He showed me on the bottom where you could pull up the lining and see the hide and stitching underneath. He also said brand new mink coats of this size are about $10-14k! Any ways, it was a fun learning experience and momma got herself a new coat for valentines!♥️

Hi there, I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier. Vey pretty though. Based on the style, I'd date it to the 90s. The fur is genuine mink, some is natural length, some is sheared, and the pelts were crafted together in an alternating pattern vertically throughout the body and diagonally throughout the sleeves which gives it that contrasting striped appearance.
