Vintage New Year\'s Resolutions

I've got a few, maybe you have some to give me some ideas?

1. Wear vintage clothing out as much as possible and carry business cards.

2. Learn what men want for their vintage clothing.

3. Get to know all the antique/estate/auction dealers in the area.

4. Take quick photos of all the hidden items in my inventory (like hats in hat boxes) so that I don't just let these waste away.

5. Purge all the stuff that I just don't think is going anywhere.

6. Time listings to suit events (i.e. VLV) with more care than before.

Mine #1 resolution is to better track my merchandise... incoming and outgoing. I also need to work

To that end I've been attempting to teach myself QuickBooks... and I'm thinking I might get Excel for the inventory tracking part of it.

Ugh. It is all just so daunting!

But... I now have spaces in two antique malls as well as my online sales... AND I'm starting an estate sale company... so there's just TOO much to keep track of!

Don't buy anything for resell unless I'm willing and able to get it in my shop without investing a lot of time on repairs.

Don't buy anything that I don't have an immediate outlet for - either in my web store or my local vintage consignment store.

Pay a bit more attention to trends and try to offer items before the public loses interest!

Keeping up with trends is a good resolution. I need to embrace a little more of the 70s I think. I've always had a liking for the crazy 30s-inspired items but much else is taking me awhile to embrace. Note to self: GET GOING!

Kristine, no kidding, you need inventory managment software! It looks like it's going to be a boom year for you!
:headbang:

#1- to get my website up there with the big girls!!!! There is so much stuff I don't know about websites. I feel at times I am way over my head.

#2- learning to better manage my time when working on my vintage

#3- and one that has nothing to do with vintage- to learn to enjoy more of the smaller moments that life has to offer!!!!

these are some great and practical resolutions.

my project / resolution is to get everything photographed and inventoried whether it's to keep or sell.

i have too many resolutions to list - and many are similar to those above, esp. inventory.
but my main aim is to eliminate my 'repair' basket. if i buy it with the intention of repairing it (and i mean little things like buttons loose, hem needs doing etc.) i MUST deal with it immediately and not put it away for 4 years and forget about it.
:)

LOL Harriet!
I'm sure I have 2 tubs, at least, of "repair" items that I've totally forgotten about!

me too! but first I have to organsize my sewing box and find all my vintage snaps and button jars and threads and put them all in one place. Hard to believe that once upon a time I was very organized.

I have done myself a pretty big favor by carting off mending to a little old lady seamstress. If the item is worth it, this seems to me to be a brilliant use of my money. I ~still~ have quite a bit of things to mend or dye or wash though.

Does it breed in that pile?

Bonnie--
sad to say that my eyes can't focus on stuff like that anymore.

And I'm only 35 years old! I just have a really hard time with small things now.

These days, if it's worth mending, I take it to my cleaners who handle stuff like buttons, hems & split seams. If it's only a $20 sale anyway I'll let it go as-is and clearly state the problems.
Otherwise it'll NEVER leave my house!
