Vintage or modern

Hi everyone, I have this crochet two piece suit. It has a very 30s look to it but it is in too good condition to be from the period. I am even thinking it may be modern made or 70s does 30s. There is no tags or anything. It does have an elasticated waist at the skirt. I also haven't seen any modern shops make these sorts of outfits. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

That's amazing, whenever it was made.

I don't know, really. The buttons appear to be beads? They look new as far as I can tell from your photos, but they might be replacements. Can you tell what the fibre is? eg cotton? Are there any seams? If so please show them (inside), if you can, eg what's going at the back of the yoke - is that a seam or an applique on top? How are the sleeves joined to the body? Also it'd be good to see the elasticated waist inside. I'm wondering if there's any overlocking / serging anywhere, that would indicate commercial manufacture.

If this is hand crochet (I think it must be, as I'm not aware of machines that make this kind of crochet?) it was a HUGE amount of work. Fine thread, tiny hook. I've seen this kind of work on gloves or doilies, but this is something else!

But someone may know differently, that this kind of thing can be done by machine.

That is quite the eye catching design! I know there were suits like this in the 70s and the 30s and 40s. This one is a mystery for sure.
The crochet of the skirt is a different pattern. I am wondering if the skirt is actually older and someone made the top to match it up, just a thought.
It is wonderful from whenever it was designed!

Yes good point. I also thought the white looks like a different shade on the skirt than on the top, but I can't be sure from the photos.

what a neat set!

as far as the terrific condition goes: remember, some (alot of) people would save their good clothes for special wear, and NOT wear it very often, so it is possible it just wasn't worn much (if at all).
