Hi everyone! I have a purse that I found recently that I would like to gather some information on. It is not marked, but I believe that it is vintage due to the clasp at the top. The design is remarkable and I haven't been able to find anything similar through browsing some websites and eBay. I believe that the design is printed on linen (or other similar fabric) and it is embellished with Aurora Borealis Rhinestones (the horses' eyes) as well as studs of different sizes and designs. Are there any purse collectors out there who can enlighten me on my find? Thanks!

Patti

Patti, I'm woefully inadequate when it comes to handbags. I do really like unique bags though and love the medieval pic on this.

Is the body of the bag leather? and what size is it?

That info will help the ones that know purses put a date on it.

I would say no earlier than 60s..later half or into the 70s. A lot of classical themes were seen in the later 60s and the 70s. You'll see not only the greek goddess theme but opulent tapestries, renassaince influences, etc.

Thats my guess for what its worth

I agree with Chris; though I've never seen anything quite like this, I would put this as late as into the very early 70s. As she points out, there was a lot of Renaissance- & Medieval-themed fashion then--flowy big-sleeved blouses, maxi-dresses, gowns.... And if this is a faux patent (can't tell from the photos), I'd say that would confirm the dating....

HTH, FWIW!

This looks mid-70s to me. I can recall looking at stuff like this back when I was shopping with my best friend in high school. I loved all the novelty prints and she thought they were gaudy and that I was crazy and discouraged me from buying them.

Hi, sorry I didn't get back to everyone earlier....my sister ran out of fuel oil yesterday and I took myself and my kerosene heater over to her house to help her heat and then I spent the night and we baked cookies today.

I don't think that the bag is genuine leather because of the rubbing on the bottom corners and the interior is vinyl (?) stamped in a faux basketweave design.

I, personally, think that the design reminds me of Genghis Khan or an Asian theme. It is pretty big at 14 1/2" wide by 10 1/2" tall (not including handles).

Thanks for all of the information so far!! Patti
